Terms of The Competition

Competition etiquette rules for the qualifying rounds and Thailand national finals for the WAGC Thailand Qualify & National Final competition 

1. Requirements and Eligibility

Participants must meet the following qualifications:
a. Must be a Thai Citizen or Thai Resident
b. Must be 18 years of age or older
c. All players must have Amateur status according to the Amateur Status rules of R&A and USGA
d. Must provide Handicap for Flight division
e. Players are eligible to register for more than one venue

2. Format

a. Stroke Play format with Net Score calculation
b. Shotgun Start
c. Maximum Score according to Rule 21.2, maximum score = Double Par

3. The competition will be conducted in stroke play format, 18 holes at each venue. The player with the lowest “net score” will be declared the winner. Participants will compete in 5 categories based on their Course Handicap, calculated from Handicap Index, Slope Rating, and Course

A. 0-5.4
B. 5.5-10.4
C. 10.5-15.4
D. 15.5-20.4
E. 20.5-25.4

WAGI

A. 0-5.4
B. 5.5-10.4
C. 10.5-15.4
D. 15.5-20.4
E. 20.5-25.4

Net Score will be calculated by subtracting each player’s Course Handicap from their Gross Score. Please note that “gimme putts” are not allowed. Players must putt out into the hole every time, regardless of distance.

4. National Finals Round

a. Only the 1st place Net Score champion from each Flight + one lucky draw winner will qualify for the National Finals to represent Team Thailand in the World Final, with competition expenses supported by the WAGC Committee
b. Method for determining Flight winners: The player with the best Net Score not exceeding 4 under par. If exceeding 4 under par, it will be considered as 4 under par. In case of ties, the player with the lower declared handicap wins
c. If handicaps are equal, use the tie-breaking method by comparing scores according to Rule 8. Deciding of Ties

5. Scoring on the Scorecard

a. Before teeing off on the first hole, competitors must exchange scorecards with players in their group to serve as markers. The marker will record scores for the player. Self-scoring on one’s own scorecard is not permitted
b. Play according to normal stroke play format. Record the actual score achieved for each hole, including any penalty strokes added to that hole’s score. Record scores for all 18 holes
c. Before returning the scorecard, both player and marker must verify the accuracy of scores hole by hole for all 18 holes and sign as Player and Marker d. Players must personally submit their scorecard at the designated collection point after completing the competition. The scorecard committee will calculate each person’s score

6. Rules of Golf

a. The competition follows golf rules approved by R&A and USGA
b. During the competition, there will be 2 referees for the Out round, 2 for the In round, and 1 chief referee to resolve any rule disputes
c. If there are rule disputes that are not resolved on the course, competitors with questions may present them to the rules committee

7. Pace of Play Policy

a. To ensure smooth competition without delays, players must play without undue delay according to the time set by the committee
b. If any group plays excessively slowly and falls out of position, referees will intervene. If still not on time, referees will time the group. If still over time, penalties will be imposed

8. Deciding of Ties

a. In case players finish 18 holes with equal scores, use the scorecard comparison method according to Term of the Competition 5A(6d.)
b. If no player in that Flight scores under par but have equal scores, the player with the lower declared handicap wins
c. If players in that Flight score no more than 4 under par equally, the player with the lower declared handicap wins
d. If players score more than 4 under par, it will be considered as 4 under par equally. The player with the lower handicap wins
e. For players in a Flight with equal scores and equal handicaps, use the following score comparison method:
1. Compare the best score of the last nine holes (holes 10-18)
2. Compare the best score of hole 18, 17, 16… in order until hole 1. If still tied, decide by drawing lots

9. Dress Code

a. Competitors must dress appropriately in traditional golf attire with shirt tucked into pants and belt worn. Long or short pants without side pockets. Jeans are not permitted
b. Golfers who dress inappropriately are considered “ineligible for competition” and will not be allowed to compete

10. Standards of Player Conduct

a. Acting with integrity and ethics
b. Showing consideration for others
c. Maintaining the course in good condition

11. “Serious Misconduct”

Players with serious misconduct will be disqualified from competition, such as:
a. Endangering the safety of others, such as throwing golf clubs at other players or spectators
b. Deliberately distracting other players while they are making a stroke
c. Moving loose impediments or movable obstructions that adversely affect other players after another player has requested they be left in place
d. Repeatedly refusing to lift a ball that has come to rest where it interferes with another player’s stroke in stroke play
e. Deliberately not playing by the rules and gaining significant advantage by doing so
f. Using profane language or repeatedly cursing
g. Using a fabricated handicap to gain unfair advantage

12. Golf Carts and Caddies

a. Golf carts and course caddies are permitted
b. Personal caddies are not permitted in Qualify and National Finals rounds

13. Competition Start Time

a. Recommendation: Competitors should arrive at the course 2:30 hours before competition start time
b. The first group of golfers must not start playing before receiving the Shotgun signal. If players play before the Shotgun signal, there is a 2-stroke penalty on that hole
c. For Shotgun starts, everyone must be positioned at their hole before the Shotgun signal. Players who are late by no more than 5 minutes receive a 2-stroke penalty on that hole. Late by more than 5 minutes results in disqualification
d. The second group of golfers on that hole, when the first group is clear and ready to play. If the second group is late by no more than 5 minutes, 2-stroke penalty on that hole. Late by more than 5 minutes results in disqualification

14. Cancellation & Did not Start

a. Withdrawals must be notified at least 10 days in advance for registration fee refund.
Less than that will not receive a refund
b. Did not start or arrived late → No registration fee refund

15. Miscellaneous

a. The WAGC Committee reserves the right to modify or improve competition regulations to align with circumstances before opening registration for the next venue
b. The WAGC Committee will manage the safety of competitors by providing insurance coverage and will prepare first aid kits for accident or injury emergencies
